The oil sump pan on your car or van can become damaged, leading to oil loss. If this is not addressed, the damage can worsen over time, resulting in larger oil patches and increasing the risk of engine damage.

The oil sump is a metal container fitted to the bottom of the engine block. Its purpose is to hold the engine oil when it is not circulating around the engine, ensuring proper lubrication during operation.

Driving with a cracked or damaged oil sump can cause continuous oil leaks, which may ultimately lead to serious damage to your vehicle’s engine if left unresolved.

Replacing an oil sump is often a straightforward task and does not usually require specialist skills. However, it can be time-consuming, as the old oil must be fully drained using the sump drain plug located at the bottom of the pan. Once the new sump is fitted, fresh engine oil must be added to the correct level in line with the vehicle’s oil level sensor.
