An intercooler’s job is simple: it cools the compressed air from the turbo before it enters the engine. Cooler, denser air means more efficient combustion, more reliable power delivery and less risk of heat soak during spirited driving or track use.

Why This Intercooler Makes a Difference

The standard E46 diesel intercooler is a known bottleneck once the engine is pushed harder, particularly on remapped or modified vehicles. By moving from the OEM 3.51 L core to a 10.7 L Wagner unit, charge air temperatures are kept lower for longer, reducing power drop-off on warm days, motorway pulls or track sessions. The optimised end tanks also help to maintain airflow without adding unnecessary back pressure.

Installation

The kit fits at the original mounting points using a plug and play design, making fitment straightforward without modifications to the chassis or bumper. Depending on your model, a specific charge pipe may be required (see fitment notes below).

This kit is designed for the following BMW E46 diesel models from 2003 onwards:

• 318d (85 kW/116 PS) with M47N engine – charge pipe 11617799397 required
• 320d / Cd / td (100-110 kW/136-150 PS) – charge pipe 11617799397 required
• 330d / Cd / xd (135-150 kW/184-204 PS) with M57N engine only – charge pipe 11617799398 required
