The B58 engine fitted to the BMW M240i, 340i, and 440i is a strong performer straight from the factory – but the standard airbox is designed around noise suppression and cost, not outright airflow. This Ramair foam intake kit replaces it with a freer-breathing setup that helps the engine draw in air more efficiently, giving you sharper throttle response and a more rewarding sound under load.
The kit centres around a dual-layer washable foam filter, a smooth rotomoulded intake pipe, and a CNC-cut powder-coated heatshield that helps keep hot engine bay air away from the intake. A two-piece carbon fibre top cover finishes the installation cleanly, giving the engine bay a purposeful but tidy look.
What It Does and Why It Matters
The factory airbox restricts airflow to keep things quiet. By opening up the intake path and shielding it from heat, this kit allows the B58 to breathe more freely. The result is a more immediate throttle response, stronger mid-range pull, and a crisper induction and turbo sound when you press on – without being intrusive at a cruise.
The rotomoulded intake pipe (a one-piece moulded polymer tube) creates a smooth internal surface that reduces turbulence in the airflow. Combined with the heatshield, which limits heat soak – the performance-robbing effect of hot air entering the intake – the system works as a complete, well-thought-out package rather than just a filter swap.

Installation and Maintenance
This is a bolt-on kit that uses the factory mounting points. No cutting of original parts is needed, and the installation can be completed with common hand tools. A remap (an ECU tune – a software adjustment to the engine’s computer) is not required for the kit to work, though vehicles that have already been tuned may see greater benefit from the improved airflow.
Important: The foam filter requires periodic cleaning and re-oiling to maintain filtration performance. Use the Ramair maintenance kit (CK-003) for this. Do not run the filter dry after washing – always re-oil before refitting.
